Taking Away the Tedium during a Hospital Stay
Children being treated in the hospital welcome any fun distraction from feeling sick. On Monday, young philanthropists Dave Krauss and Charlie Benzyk from the Boredom Busters Program came to the rescue by delivering toys, games and fun activities from the Boing! Toy Store to Boston Medical Center. The new puzzles and paints will certainly help BMC’s pediatric patients to pass the time while they heal, like children in BMC’s sickle cell unit, who sometimes need days of transfusions.
Dave and Charlie brought Boredom Busters to the Boston area and are partnering with BMC’s Child Life Specialists to help ease the worry, anxiety and (of course) tedium that accompanies a hospital stay. BMC’s Child Life Specialists are specially trained to comfort young patients and help them understand and cope with their illness or medical procedure.
Beyond delivering some exciting playthings, Boredom Busters announced that they raised more than $3,000 so that BMC’s Child Life Specialists can purchase more toys and educational tools to ensure there will be “boredom busting” items for all the pediatric patients who come through BMC’s doors for the next year. Thank you Boredom Busters for turning a mundane Monday into a truly momentous occasion!
